Know When to Prep IV Meds With PVC-Free and DEHP-Free Supplies
You may see more focus on appropriate use of PVC-free and DEHP-free IV supplies...due to shortages of some of these products.
PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, is commonly used to make IV tubing and bags (Viaflex, etc). DEHP, or diethylhexyl phthalate, may be used in combo with PVC...to make PVC containers more flexible.
But PVC and DEHP aren't compatible with all IV meds. That's why some meds must be prepped in PVC-free or DEHP-free containers.
